Safety and cosmetic surgery. How to ask the right questions and recognise red flags!

What should I ask my surgeon before having cosmetic plastic surgery?

When considering cosmetic plastic surgery SAFETY is your number one priorty!  It would be foolish to think that any procedure or surgery is a walk in the park at lunch time!  In fact, all surgery carries risk.  Even a shot of filler in the lips at lunchtime carries a level of complex risk that you may not fully understand.  But and there's a big but, the real question one needs to ask:

'does the surgeon have the skills and qualifications to assess the risk and then manage the risk should a complication arise? '

The Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons has developed a downloadable guide of 7 must ask questions before having plastic surgery along with some important RED FLAGS that you should be aware of when choosing your surgeon.

Here are the top 7 Questions to ask:

  1. Are you registered as a Specialist Surgeon by AHPRA?
  2. Have you completed AMC (Australian Medical Council) accredited post-graduate surgical training?
  3. Is the title you use an official AHPRA title?
  4. Do you perform surgery in a hospital that is accredited and licensed for cosmetic surgery?
  5. Do you use the services of a Specialist Anaesthetist for cosmetic surgery?
  6. How many procedures have you done before?
  7. Can I see some Before and After images and reviews about your care?
